Zhang Xiaoli: China’s Birth Control Policy is Full of Violence
张晓莉(Zhang,Xiaoli)
It is reported by the media that of all Chinese women of child-bearing age, nearly 50% use contraceptive device, and one third have ligation operation. Depending on threats and extremities, many family-plan departments of the regional governments force pregnant women who do not get “approval to bear”, to abort their babies. The birth control policy is a violent one that is filled with Chinese women’s blood and tears.
The Chinese government restrains women’s rights to childbearing, the birth control policy allows each family has only one child. In rural areas, peasant households need labor force to do heavy farm work, but the birth control policy is also implemented among those families. In absence of labor force, the major workforces of many peasant households have to long-term take on overburdened farm work, but they still cannot obtain adequate income, therefore many farmer families exist in perpetual poverty.
The Chinese people hope to obtain the right to childbearing with freedom, and most of which oppose the birth control policy. Regardless of the masses’ sufferings, the birth control policy has been carried out in a compulsive and violent way all through several decades. We hope that the Chinese government can put an end to the birth control policy as soon so possible, and return to the Chinese common the rights to childbearing with freedom.
