Zhang, Xiaoli: The Alarming Environmental Pollution in China

Environment is the most fundamental condition for human begins to live. If we damage the environment, then the basic condition for living will be destroyed. At present, the ecological environment in China is getting worse, and what make the most profound effect on us are water resource, air, and food polluted in varying degrees.
In China, severe deforestation, spoiled green fields, and damaged grasslands have caused serious soil erosion, and worrying desertification in China’s western region. Apart from the spoiled forest, water resource is also alarming, China is one of the countries which are most vulnerable to water pollution, due to the neglect of environmental protection. Many areas of China are facing the problem of inadequate water supply, a great amount of people in northern areas cannot enjoy clean water, and more than half of the population cannot drink water in conformity with the hygienic standards set by the state. What leads to those results? The answer is China. In China, waste water produced by the factories and the people is discharged without treatment, which is the best proof. Besides, the heavy smog from the factories’ funnels is a major pollution source for the air, and it has a great threat and harm to the human health.
Do we want to live in such environment? Certainly not! We hope that China will engage in action, begin from the government, and being right now. The country should reduce industrial pollution, and protect forest, grasslands, and the nature. Everyone should build up the consciousness of environmental protection, and jointly make contributions to environmental preservation.
