迟瑾(Chi,Jin)
22 year ago, in the wee hours of the June forth of 1989, thousands of student s and local residents took part in the demonstration held in Tiananmen Square of Beijing which is the capital of China. The demonstrators demanded anti-corruption, anti-bureaucracy, and reforms from the government. However, what they finally obtained from the government was a volley of machine-gun fire as well as tank fire. Besides the fearsome sight, the massacre also took a heavy toll of lives…… Countless young students and residents were gunned down, some of whom were arrested, some were sentenced, and others were sent into exile. The Chinese communist government bloodily cracked down on the unprecedented democracy movement with the help of the army.
Although 22 years went by, the suffering and misery the “June Forth massacre” brought to the common would never be erased. The “June Forth massacre” that is an unavoidably historical issue in the progress of Chinese social civilization. We must esteem the whole historical facts of the “June Forth incident”. As a government with conscience and justice, it should bear the responsibility for making the public widely know the facts of the “June Forth incident”.
China needs democracy, freedom, human rights, and laws. The Chinese people wish to be safeguarded by modern democracy, and a constitutional system of multi-parties taking turns on government. Only in this way, will it be possible to avoid the occurrence of incidents resembling “June Forth incident”.
