China is one of the largest economically developing countries in the world, but the environmental problem in this region is also attracting much attention of the world. For years, the Chinese government has been pursuing economic growth and benefits in a one-sided perspective. Environmental protection becomes the country’s weakness. The growth of the economy is regionally uneven, which results in radiation effect. The increase of the remote areas’ economy is driven, but the environmentally deteriorated area is expanding.
At the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholms in 1972, the representatives of the conference proposed making June Fifth be the “World Environment Day”. In 1972, the 27th United Nations General Assembly designated June Fifth to be the “World Environment Day”. The “World Environment Day” aims to warn the world of the global environment conditions, and the mankind activities’ risk to the environment. On that day, the entire world holds promotion activities concerning environmental protection.
The environmental problem existing in current China is alarming. As a government, it should take responsibility and obligation in protecting environment. It should propagandize the significance of environmental preservation to the people, and make use of every June Fifth “World Environment Day” to do propaganda activities. It should make the entire Chinese people realize the importance of environmental protection, and know that environmental preservation is not the government’s job, but a project needing all people participation.
