Wang, Jian: The Memory of the 22nd Anniversary of “June Forth of 1989 Incident”
王健(Wang,Jian)
The day for commemorating “June Forth of 1989 Incident” is going to take place after a few days. It is now twenty-two years since the occurrence of “June Forth of 1989 Incident”. How many people lost their lives in that year, and how many people became the disabled? In the past twenty-two years, people with a conscience never forgot the incident, and we also had not forgotten it. Some dare not forget that day, and some dare not forget in their whole lives. Thus, people who don’t forget the incident always cherish the memory of it, while those who dare not forget the incident are trying to take those memories away. They prohibit commemorative events, block Internet, and forbid any voice regarding “June Forth”.
It is reported by the media that in the eve of the 22nd anniversary of “June Forth of 1989 Movement”, the Chinese communist government widely blocks domestic network forums, and the number of the blocked forums has been as many as several thousands. It shows the convenience as well as the guilty conscience of the autocratic ruling. Also, we can feel that the dictatorial country which is waging the final struggle is more than a little shaken by the power of the Internet.
We appeal to the Chinese government to respect the history, and restore historical truth. As a people’s government, it should face up to its responsibilities for the serious consequences caused by the suppression of “June Forth Movement”. The government should gradually open up the freedom of press and Internet. It must make the truth of “June Forth Incident” become known to all. I appeal to the Chinese people to recover the lost sense of righteousness, bravely step forward, cry for fairness and justice, and fight for democracy and freedom.
