Lin, Yuexian: Chinese People should have the Right of Freedom of Speech

In the constitution ordinance formulated by Chinese government, there is a clearly provision of people’s speech: Chinese people have the right of freedom of speech. For years, this provision is basically stuck in the text; in reality, Chinese people’s speeches are restricted on varying degrees. People cannot openly express their ideas. Of course, it is illegal to openly publish their speeches, particular the ones related to whatever the government considers violating the safety and stability of China. The government’s regulation is very strict.
Freedom of speech is a basic human right, and everyone needs the right of freedom of speech. Any person or organization cannot interfere in other people’s freedom of speech. All the people are equal, and government has to respect people’s opinions and views. The Chinese government should give people space of freedom of speech, allow people to express different ideas. It would not be possible to promote the civilization and progress of Chinese society if the Chinese government does not guarantee the freedom of speech given by the constitution.
