Chen, Yuyi: The Chinese Government must Comply with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
陈彧屹(Chen,Yuyi)
On December 10, 1948, The United Nations General Assembly issued the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. From that time on, it has become a worldwide law for human rights. Today, many countries in the world use the date December 10 as international human rights day.
The basic human rights, human dignity and freedom advocated by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights have been accepted, respected and implemented more and more widely among the whole world. Besides, human rights, freedom, equality, fraternity and human dignity have already become the measure to see if a country is progressed or not in a modern civilized society.
China is a member of the United Nations, and also is one of the countries that co-signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, so it has to fulfill the responsibility of guaranteeing people’s basic human rights. The concept and value of respecting the human rights and human dignity put forward by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are the base of the world recognized freedom, fairness, equity and justice. Facts have approved that the Chinese government has to guarantee basic human rights, guarantee civilians’ human dignity and freedom. In order to do all these, the prerequisite is that China must implement a social system of democracy, freedom, human rights and rule of law.
