Chi, Yunzheng: Commemorating 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre, Achieving Democracy and Freedom
池云征(Chi,Yunzheng)
years ago, in 1989, the majority of Chinese people supported the student movement, hoping that Chinese government could fight against corruption, and changing the one-party autocracy. Many students and people were extremely excited at this; they all thought that the government would learn the lesson and hear people’s voice. But, in the morning of June 4, Chinese Communist party’s armed troops entered Beijing city, entered Tiananmen Square. Some students and civilians died in the intense gunfire. A bloody scene appeared in Beijing’s street. Chinese government made the Tiananmen Square Massacre event shocking the whole world. Though this great democratic movement failed, the influence of this event is far-reaching, and this will always inspire Chinese people’s pursuit of democracy and freedom.
It has been 23 years since that democracy movement happened. But to those people who ever experienced it, this movement is still very fresh. The most important demand of 1989 student movement is to against corruption; ask to implement democracy and freedom in China. However, the Chinese Communist government sent heavily armed troops to suppress this movement.
