Li, Weicun: Should Ensure Food Safety from Its System

China’s food safety problem in recent decade become especially prominent, the typical incidents are poison mild power event, low-quality white alcohol event, Sudan Red event, and swill-cooked dirty oil event. Food safety incidents are happening every year, one after another. Among them, excessive melamine tainted milk powder incident happens again and again. Over the years, some local illegal vendors uses swill-cooked dirty oil to process food, uses hydrogen peroxide or sulphur to bleach buns and bread, recently there happens “poison capsule event” which made by leather. Chinese people have to face so many food safety incidents.
Many people’s bodies are seriously injured because of the food safety problem. People are questioning, why there are so many problems exist in China’s food? Where is the root problem of China’s food safety? Under the back of every food safety incident, there must be certain factors. As a government, they must think about it carefully.
Food safety means that the food chosen by people are non-toxic, harmless, they meet the nutritional needs, and do not cause any harm to human health. There is an old saying in China, “people regard food as their prime want.” But the endless food safety problem really makes Chinese people very worried. They hope the government can effectively manage the process of food production, processing and sales. Meanwhile, strengthen food safety legislation and improve the rule of law, guaranteeing the food safety from its system.
