Liu, Zhemu: Promoting the Chinese Society toward Freedom of Speech

The Chinese Communist government controls severely on the freedom of speech, especially on the aspects of social system and ideology, there is no room for freedom of speech. In political participation, ordinary people do not have much right on freedom of speech; facing the ruling government, ordinary people cannot comment on it casually, all the words must be consistent with the government-controlled newspapers and television broadcasting. The public cannot comment on the useless government and official corruption.
Freedom of speech is that people can express freely according to their will; people can express their views at anytime, anyplace. In a democratic society, people are allowed to have different voices; they are allowed to criticize their own government, and government officials. What is more, they can even protest in front of the government building.
Autocracy leads to a China that has no freedom of speech. Only by promoting a democratic reform and fully open the freedom of speech, can Chinese people have rational cognition and thinking while facing the problem of government’s ruling and government officials’ doings, can the public communicate an discuss with government officials. Therefore, opening the freedom of speech is a necessary way for Chinese society’s way towards truth.
