23 years ago, between spring and summer, in 1989, a democracy movement shocking the whole world happened in China. From the beginning to the end, this democracy movement asked the government to deal with corruption, and the whole process was in a form of petition which was peaceful and rational. There were no irrational scenes, and also no violent scenes. The number of people who participated in it was very large, and it had a great influence, which was very rare.

The patriotic and democratic movement which was student-centered, universally participated has passed 23 years, but the spirit of it gives people a strong impression. That year, the Chinese government brutally suppressed the Eight-seven democracy movement, which made the Tiananmen Square Massacre. This action let the corrupted government officials win time, space and opportunity; they became never satisfied with money and material, oppressed the public and disobeyed the law. All these led to the Chinese society with unfair social distribution, the gap between the rich and poor become larger, and social contradiction become very prominent.

The Eighty-nine democracy movement has awakened Chinese people’s awareness of freedom, democracy and human rights. I hope the Chinese government can start a political reform, build a transparent government, meanwhile, the government has to openly take the responsibility of Tiananmen Square Massacre, letting the dead rest in peace, let the alive live comfortable.
