黄波(Huang,Bo)
If one person jumps to his death is an independent event that can be attributed to emotional issues or miserable lives, but it is too abnormal when suicide incidents occur in the same corporation one after another. On January 23, 2010, in the dormitory of Foxconn Southern China Training Department, a 19-year old worker Xiangqian Ma jumped to his death and in the following 3 to 4 months, the suicide incidents spread like a contagious disease or like a curse, only on May 2010, there were 7 jumping incidents or other form of suicide happened, and there were 2 incidents on March, 2 incidents on April, these 13 suicide incidents in Foxconn caused strong repercussions and discussion around the country.
After the 13th suicide incident, people started to concern on the real fact behind these suicide incidents, such as the frontline employees’ salary keeps the same while the price keeps rising, and the government pays no attention to the deceased workers. Foxconn suicide incident become to be indelible painful memories for Chinese people in 2010, we feel sad and angered for these victims. This thing warns us that the growth of economic development increases polarization of Chinese society, more and more people living in poverty live a simple life without hope, and the social pressure is increasing, workers’ rights are under no protection.
