Tian, Yongxue: China Must Realize Democracy and Freedom
田永学(Tian,Yongxue)
The present Chinese communist government does not directly oppose democracy and freedom, while it even openly advocates democracy and freedom. The so-called “socialist democracy” and “Inner-party democratic centralism” are actually not really practicing democracy, but disguised constrain of democracy. Once someone mentions western democracy and freedom, the Chinese communist party would explain that the western democracy does not suitable for China’s national conditions, or saying that we need to build a socialist democracy with Chinese characteristics.
It is not easy to promote democratic reform in Chinese society, since the process of democracy is the process of giving powers back to the people. Practicing democracy means the Chinese communist regime will lose powers and benefits. Therefore, if we advocate democracy in Chinese society there must be opposite voice, so it’s natural for Chinese communist regime to oppose democracy.
Of course, substantial moves are needed for promoting Chinese democratic reform, as to the democratic reform, the government and the people should obtain a consensus, gradually promoting the steps of democracy, freedom, human rights, and the rule of law. Only by this way could Chinese democracy and freedom make a breakthrough, could China really achieve democracy.
