Yang, Cheng: Never Let Incidents like “June 4” Happen Again

It comes to the memorial day of “June 4” incident in 1989 again. In the late spring 23 years ago, many cities in China, centered by Beijing, hundreds of thousands of students and people went to the street and held rallies to urge the government punish corrupt officials, promoting political reform. In Beijing, many students launched hunger strike, and they asked to directly negotiate with the government. However, in the morning of June 4, the Chinese government used armed force equipped with tanks and machineguns to suppress protestors, causing hundreds of people died.
Today, the “June 4” has passed 23 years, despite of the fact that the Chinese government does everything to escape this heartbreaking incident and to stop the media from reporting this incident, the Chinese people never forget the “June 4” incident, and they hold all kinds of activities in memory of “June 4” incident.
“June 4” incident left an indelible wound to all the Chinese people, and it is a true history that the Chinese government should never evade. We commemorate “June 4” and urge the Chinese government to restore the truth of history, and to learn the lessons from history; we want to let the Chinese government know that violence cannot solve everything, and force may never conquer the desire of Chinese people to pursuit democracy and freedom.
