In 1989, 23 years ago, the problem of Chinese government official’s corruption was already very serious, during which was the climax period of China’s reform and opening-up, thus many powerful officials went into business, they took advantage of former relationships and influence in officialdom to illegally buying and selling scarce national resources and seeking excessive profits from which. The officials are so venal that they trade power for money, thus causes the rampant corruption.

Started from the spring of 1989, protests and demonstrations emerged, mainly constituted by students, which urged the government to fight against corruption. However, the Chinese government rejected the students’ appeal of anti-corruption. Out of frustration, the students and other ordinary people gathered in the Tiananmen Square went on a hungry strike. They asked the government not only to punish corrupt officials, but also to implement political reform, as well as asked for negotiation with the government. But in the morning of June 4, the Chinese government commanded armed force to suppress this democratic movement.

At the time of the 23th anniversary of the “June 4” incident, we commemorate the people who scarified their lives to fight against corruption. Today, Chinese officials dare to openly get involve in corruption, and instead of introspection, the government defends these corrupt officials. We strongly urge the Chinese government not to forget the “June 4” incident, and we urge the government to practice democracy and rule of law, as well as to punish corruption.
