Sun, Ning: Chinese People Have No Power to Fight against Corruption
孙宁(Sun,Ning)
Chinese society is an one-party autocracy, and Chinese communist regime have governed China for a long period, since there are no real opposition parties, which leads to the communist party’s ruling under no supervisions, thus the ruling party’s power infinitely expends, accordingly officials’ powers under no restrain of law as well as supervision of people. Under such a political environment, government inaction and corruption are well-known by Chinese people.
Ordinary Chinese people do something in the government, such as apply a business license, driver’s license, or even a birth certificate of a child, they could not do it smoothly without preparing gifts and inviting officials to a dinner, and as time passes, it becomes a “unspoken rule” in the corrupt society, so that many Chinese people have got used to it. Ordinary people are the real victim of corruption, since the corruption damages people’s basic human rights and benefits. Only the victims understand what does corruption mean, and only the victims understand how outrageous those corrupt officials are, and only the victims understand the feeling of persecuted by corrupt officials.
Chinese people hate corruption, while they have no power to fight against corruption, since law in China is meaningless, and by the officials’ words, their words are the laws; the officials take the liberty to say that fighting against corruption is the government’s work, and the CCP government monopolizes the power of anti-corruption. From the perspective of CCP officials, real anti-corruption will shake their regime as well as their benefits, thus, the CCP government would never allow ordinary people participate in anti-corruption.
