Huo, Liang: “June 4” Democratic Movement was China’s Greatest Democratic Movement in China in 20th Century

23 years ago, millions of people who ask for democracy, freedom, anti-corruption and anti-authoritarian gathered in Beijing, the political and cultural center of China. “June 4” incident was not just a democratic movement that Chinese youths pursue democracy, neither only a patriotic democratic movement happened in Beijing. The big number of people participated, the large scope affected, and the long time lasted indicates that the “June 4” incident was one of the top democratic movements in the 20th century around the world. The solemn and stirring ending of the “June 4” incident has engraved in the history. Thousands of students’ and citizens’ blood spilled on the Changan Street as well as the Tiananmen Square, which cannot be washed out by time.
The “June 4” movement affected many big and middle size cites in Chinese, including almost all colleges and universities and half of technical colleges, as well as part of factories, government agencies, public institutions in big and middle size cities of China, and also some rural areas. Nearly 10 million people directly or indirectly participated in this movement, which is a free democratic movement that Chinese people vent their dissatisfaction and anger towards China Communist party’s autocracy.
In the face of the public’s reasonable request, the corrupt China Communist authorities reluctant to step down from stage of history, so they using tanks, machine guns to launch a bloodbath on the Changan Street. The shameless autocratic government massacred the unarmed students and citizens by using tanks and machine guns, thus suppressed the ferocious patriotic democratic movement into the pool of blood.
History can be changed by nobody, 23 years later, we strongly urge Chinese government to respect the history and the truth, and to correctly evaluate the “June 4” democratic movement, clarifying the truth, clearing the democrats’ name in the democratic movement.
