Hong, Mei: Urge Chinese Government to Abolish Birth-control Policy As Soon As Possible
洪梅(Hong,Mei)
Thirty years ago, people in Chinese society lived in poverty, and Chinese economic development faced big challenges, while the Chinese government wrongfully attributed this to overpopulation, then it made the “one-child” policy that forcibly being implemented across the country.
The implementation of the birth control policy is mainly by using forcible approaches, in order to compel every family having only one child. The policy totally deprived people’s right to birth, violating the basic natural rules of human beings, destroying population structure of families, violating people’s basic human rights. The execution of the policy caused long-term harm to Chinese society.
The forcible execution of the birth control policy tramples people’s basic human rights. When government officials executing the policy, they bind and detain the people willfully, or prosecute people by fines and destroying houses. The process of executing the policy is completed by a series of forcible methods, such as forcible ligation, abortion, induction, which embodies Chinese government’s disregard and cruelty to lives.
The birth control policy has been executed for decades that caused serious unbalance of gender ratio; the concept of “boys are better than girls” still exist among a large number of Chinese people, thus most of which prefer to have a boy. “Selective pregnancy” and sex determination are widely used, all of which lead to today’s serious unbalance of gander ratio in China. The “one-child” policy does not only severely trampling human rights, but also destroying the natural rule of human development, bringing calamity to the country and people, must to be abolished as soon as possible.
