Hong, Mei: Chinese Government must fight against Corruption by Political Reform
洪梅(Hong,Mei)
Democratic states govern the country by democracy, and their rule strategy includes a well-organized and independent judicial system, under which the power of government officials is under the supervision and restriction of law, thus the problem of corruption seldom appears due to the prevention of corruption from the level of political system. The current Chinese government acts as the lawmaker, executor, and supervisor at the same time, so that the power of legislation, jurisdiction and execution are not independent with each other with a disordered relationship. In addition to the absolute power in the hands of the officials under dictatorship, the absolute power will definitely lead to absolute corruption. The soil corruption grow out of is the absolute power, which is one of that main factors why China becomes the most corrupt country in the world.
The Chinese government appeals honesty and self-discipline among government officials for a long time, in order to control the problem of corruption. As a government official, it is his responsibility to keep honesty and self-discipline. Now the problem is, short-term honesty and self-discipline is possible for many officials to keep, but it is impossible for many of them to keep professional ethics over time, and then comes corruption. Among the officials, one is more corrupt than another, and the corruption amount is increasingly high.
Why Chinese corruption is so serious? That’s because of its corrupt autocratic system, under which power receives no legal restrictions, and everyone has chances to participate in corruption. Only by reforming political system, practicing democratic freedom system, and to fight against corruption from the system, could Chinese anti-corruption be successful.
