Liu, Runxia: Commemorate the 23rd Anniversary of the “June 4th” Event in 1989
刘润侠(Liu,Runxia)
23 years ago, between spring and summer, several hundred thousand students and citizens took to the street in Beijing to launch parades and rallies, during which they demonstrate promotional banners in different sizes and colors, shouting slogans, to demand the Chinese government punishing corruption and practicing democratic political reform. In many big cities in China, emerged rallies and demonstrations in different scales to support Beijing’s move, the Chinese people, represented by students, expressed their will to pursue democracy and freedom by the same method.
However, the democratic move in 1989 got suppressed by the Chinese government. In the morning of June 4th, the government sent armed force and armored cars to bloodily slaughter the people who participated in the parades and rallies. Numerous students and citizens died under the soldiers’ guns.
Today, we commemorate the “June 4th” event to mourn the real heroes, who sacrificed their lives to chase democracy and freedom. Although the event has become a historical event after 23 years, it is a brilliant chapter on the Chinese history. We believe that the Chinese people’s pursuit of democracy and freedom will never stop.
