Wang, Zhien: Commemorate the 23 Years June 4th Event Has Been Passed
王志恩(Wang,Zhien)
It comes to the time to commemorate June 4th event, 23 years ago in the late spring of 1989, students and citizens in many big cities, such as Beijing, took to the street to hold rallies, which demanded the government to punish corruption, and to promote political reform. Their wishes and petitions turned down by the government, then, part of people who participated in the rallies launched hunger strike, in demand of having a dialogue with the government. In the early morning of June 4th, Chinese government sent army to violently suppress the demonstrations and rallies, causing numerous deaths, the scene of which was pretty tragic.
The June 4th event left a hurt to the country and the people; the event has become an inevitable practical issue for Chinese government and the ruling party. More and more Chinese people hope to restore the truth of June 4th event, to let more people, especially the young generation, to know more about the event.
We appeal Chinese government to allow folks to commemorate the June 4th event in 1989, and to open news freedom in Chinese society, to open freedom of speech, to launch democratic political reform, and to promote democratic freedom, human rights, and legal construction.
