Zhang, Zongping: Appeal for Chinese Government to Fully Open Free Speech

People living under democratic system could enjoy the right to speech, that is, one can freely expresses his opinion, including political opinions, anytime and anywhere. On the contrary, those living under autocratic system possess no right to speech, and people’s speech will receive government restrictions.
We ask for Chinese government to open free speech, which could bring substantial benefits to the people, for example, once free speech is available, folks can enjoy convenient communications between each other, and people may also easily communicate with government officials, which will help the construction of harmonious society. When people’s interests and powers get damaged, they may argue on the basis of reason, may criticize the government as well as the government officials.
Once Chinese people possess the right to speech, corrupt officials will under big pressure, which is benefit to promote the fairness and justice of law, and could also push the power of the government and its officials operating under sunshine. That is the substantial benefits that the free speech may bring to Chinese society. Therefore, we advocate Chinese government to fully open free speech, to open the Internet, and to open press freedom.
