Zhang, Baoming: Hope Chinese Government Making a Contribution to Improving Human Rights
张宝明(Zhang,Baoming)
On December 10, 1948, 56 member countries attending the United Nations General Assembly passed the Resolution 217, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and China was one of these signatory states. The Declaration expressly points out “People’s will is the base of the government power”, and since the bill passed, it has pushed the process of the development of democratic constitutionalism in the countries around the world, the people in most of the countries have accepted the ideas of democracy, freedom, and human rights as universal values.
The current Chinese society has long lacked of fairness and justice, and the number of unjust cases keeps increasing year by year, meanwhile the official corruption is intensifying; demolition of homes happens across the country, as well as the farm land owned by the farmers; the activities that people protect their rights always turn to bloodshed, Chinese people’s human rights consistently get infringed or deprived by the government.
In current Chinese society, as the lack of democratic freedom and human rights develops to a certain degree, Chinese people are increasingly eager for democratic freedom, human rights, and the rule of law, and the resistance to authoritarian is more and more fierce. We urge Chinese government to obey the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in order to make a contribution to improve the human rights situation in China.
