Chen, Jiming: China’s Anti-Corruption should start from Reforming the System
陈继明(Chen,Jiming)
In China, corruption remains exist in the different dynasties from ancient times. Especially in the current Chinese government, corruption has become the biggest scandal. In fact, corruption is not terrible, what terrible is that the entire society is soaked in corruption. Now the entire society is getting involved in corruption, while in the past the corruption only existed in the government, not in the fields of academy, culture, media, and business.
Now in all sectors of the community, kids get to know corruption as early as when they are in primary school, parents have to give gifts to teachers, or the teachers will not pay attention to their children. What really matter is that many Chinese people do not consider this as a bad thing; everyone has accepted such concept is the most terrible thing in Chinese society.
Obviously, corruption exists in every country. The power of the Chinese government and officials is too large; this is a matter of system, under the one-party authoritarian system that centralizes the power, which would definitely result in absolute corruption. Therefore, the premise of anti-corruption is practicing democratic reform, and balances the powers by the rule of law, otherwise, anti-corruption will have no future. At the same time, the people should be allowed to supervise the power, and let the media serves its function of supervision, only in this way could we solve the severe problem of corruption.
