Shi, Caoming: Chinese Government Must Stop Forcible Demolishing Policy
施曹明(Shi,Caoming)
In recent years, many local governments and government officials are in favor of face-saving projects, to build skyscrapers, squares, and expand the area of the city. They practice forcible demolishing policy toward people’s homes. Mercenary property developers collude with government officials, in the guise of developing economy and building beautiful homeland, to hire gangsters to demolish people’s homes, resulting in hundreds of thousands lost their homes, while the government never upholds justice for them.
The boldness of Chinese developers derives from the actions of the government departments and officials that do not in accordance with the law. China’s society has no rule of law, social morality is deteriorating, and the people’s lawful interests have been infringed, which lead to the escalation of the confliction between the government officials and the people. In China’s cities, because of demolition, many people get hurt, some even commit suicide. The forcible demolition could bring unrest to the society and the country, giving rise to numerous homeless citizens.
The country needs development and the city needs renovation, so demolition is inevitable. The demolition, however, could not infringe people’s lawful interests, so it must be conducted in the precondition of the consent of the house owners. Unfortunately, developers take violent methods to demolish houses without the consent of the owners, some even hire gangsters to threaten the owners, and if the owners resist, they would beat the owners and even smash and forcibly demolish the houses. The Chinese government has to reform its policy of demolition, improving the unreasonable clauses, stopping forcible demolition, to effective protect the basic human rights of the people.
