Wang, Duo: Chinese Government must ensure the food safety for people

The reason of food safety incidents in China was Chinese officials’ pursuing of profit and ignoring public health and safety. Chinese food industry was conniving with the government. With abnormal production process, food safety incidents were happening, and caused many damages to people’s health. However, the Chinese officials’ management of food safety cases and their attitude to the victims makes Chinese people outstandingly disappointed.
Food safety incidents have caused many people poisoned and even died. It is not enough to punish those criminals who produce poisoned and harmful food, or to punish the food merchants. For example, in the great food safety incident of “Sanlu milk powder” in 2008, so many infants and children were affected and even killed by the poisoned milk powder, but few officials or businessmen was taking the responsibility of the huge damage. At the end, only some dairy farmers were punished as scapegoats. Neither the government nor the Sanlu industry has given enough compensation for the victims.
Facts have proved that the food safety problem in China is related to the Chinese political system. In order to guarantee food safety and quality, the realization of democracy and legality is the only way to actually regulate the entire process of food production, such as growth, farm, packing, transportation, supervision and sale. And thus, it is the only way to guarantee food quality and safety, and to ensure that all of Chinese people could have safe food.
