Li, Su: Petition is the last hope for unfairly treated people
李肃(Li,Su)
The Chinese government is using brutal means to depress the most vulnerable group of the society, which means the corrupt and rigid government doesn't have the power or the intention to solve the so-called “contradictions among the people.”
In today’s China, social conflicts are intensified in the mainland; people don’t have a way to report their injustices. Chinese judicial system has become so corrupt, that the petition has become the main way to protect them. Petition by letter or personal visit are a direct appeal system with Chinese characteristics. However, the petition mechanism and department has no power to solve the problem. The petition cases will be returned to local government. In order to avoid the explosion of problems, the local governments even send special officials to stop the people who visit Beijing to file their petition. As a result, many people received local officials’ revenge and unfair treatment.
In fact, most petitioners have perfectly logical and reasonable complaints, which are never making trouble out of nothing. They were suffering from unfair treatment and injustices. These social injustices are seriously endangering their basic right to live and their psychological bottom line. When they have no way to live their lives, the petition is the only hope. However, petitions are suppressed, which is the despairing catastrophe to the petitioners. If there is no way back, the only choice is fight back. Therefore, as long as they still have the freedom, they may have following two options: first, the extreme means by the individual way, for example, revenge the society in violence; and second, large scale of demonstrations and protests in an organized way. The crueler Chinese government suppresses petitioner, the more likely petitioner would organized together, and finally become a group of opposition forces.
