Miao, Bencheng: Chinese government should Correctly Evaluate the “June Fourth” event of 1989
缪本成(Miao,Bencheng )
23 years ago, on June 4th of 1989, the Chinese government made massive massacre on Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. Between spring and summer of 1989, there was a lasting public demonstrations and rallies in Beijing, millions of citizens and students were joined the rally. They had the same request to ask the Chinese government to punish corrupt officials and to carry out democratic political reform. The movement was brutally crackdown by the military forces. Thousands of people were killed in the violence, countless people were injured and arrested, and many were detained for years before release.
Today, we recall and memorial the “June 4th” event, because the majority of Chinese people cannot forget it. We strongly request that the Chinese government should take seriously the “June 4th” event of 1989, treat the event with fair attitude, and give the victims a reasonable explanation. At the same time, we are asking the Chinese government to carry out political reform, punish corrupt officials, and achieve democracy and freedom.
