Among all the people in China, those corrupt government officials must love the country the most. Why? With the Communist Party continuing to indulge corruption, they never have to worry about how to transfer public money into their own pockets. They often get to buy luxury houses, go gambling recklessly or transfer dirty incomes to overseas with the help of their trusted ones. Unlike inmany developed countries, there has been no requirement for Chinese government officials to report or publicize their annualpersonal income or real estate property. They rarely get checked or investigated by National Tax Department. Many of these officials take home an average monthly salary of 3,000-5,000 RMB (roughly 460-769 USD), but can afford houses that worth millions of dollars, not to mention those luxury brand-name products that cost three to four times of their annual salary. Some of them even have millions of cash sitting in their overseas house as their retirement fund. Guess where the money is coming from?

‘Favored’ business owners might also love the country’s existing policies as much as corrupt officials do. If there was no conspiracy, corruption and bribery between them and those corrupt local officials, theywould not have hadflows of state money flushing into their private companies at nearly zero cost. It was the ‘free money’ that hasmademany of them rich overnight. Recent scandals revealed dangerous food products such as tainted milk powder, fake mutton and toxic meat. Almost all of them have been sold in China for years. And localofficials have again and again chosen toturn a blind eye. Why? Local government officials have been taking money from factory owners who produce tainted milk powder, fake mutton and toxic meat. With money on the line to support their reckless spending into the future, these corrupt officials chose to be silent; chose to allow tragedies happen again and again to innocent citizens. In many cases, even after tragedy happened, not a single localofficial involvedwastimely and properly questionedor investigated.
