Dong, Lianchi: A Democratically Elected Government must be Established in China

Chinese people are lack of civil rights in a long term. Especially in the area of political right, it is far behind many countries. As a Chinese citizen, one of the political rights the constitution gives is the right to vote. In fact, people did not have the right to vote in such a country with 1.3 billion people.
Chinese people cannot use their votes to elect government or elect government officials. Today’s Chinese government is a governed by the Chinese Communist Party. This government does not need people’s election, all the government officials are appointed by the party. Under such condition, Chinese society has no rule of law, government and government officials would not respect people’s right. This is the reason why China’s human rights situation did not improve.
Moreover, the Chinese do not have the freedom of speech, do not have the freedom of religion, and do not have the freedom of rally. Only by implementing democratic political reform in China, can China be better. People would be involved in politics under a democratic system, can use their rights to choose their favorable government officials.
