Piao, Zaixing: The Chinese Government must Guarantee Food Safety

China＇s food safety incidents happen every day. Fake cigarettes, fake alcohol, fake food are not unfamiliar to Chinese people. In supermarkets in China, people see fresh vegetables, fruits. Though the outside is very pretty, people are heisted to eat, fearing it contains toxic elements and excessive pesticide residues. In China, due to these problems, group food poisoning incidents are very frequent.
Whenever food safety accidents or group food poisoning incidents happen, Chinese government officials would identify a variety of reasons to shirk its responsibility. And the government-controlled media would talk on government officials’ behalf. They would find any way to exculpate.
Chinese government＇s power is too concentrated. The government does not only control the country＇s resources, but also control the news media, control the judiciary, and control the food regulatory agencies. The most effective way to Solve China＇s food safety problem is to achieve democracy and the rule of law.
