Piao, Zaixing: China needs to Learn America’ s Election
朴在星(Piao,Zaixing)
The Presidential election participated by the public in the United States is over, and President Barack Obama is re-elected. In American’s eyes, this is just a normal election; but for us—the Chinese, we should learn a lot from it. We should learn the way American people use their votes to elect the country's president.
Obama’s win in the election creates a new history. He was successfully re-elected in the situation of high unemployment rate; from a political sense, this is Obama's victory, and also the victory of America’s democratic system. From the beginning of the U.S. presidential election, all the people, no matter of their races, occupations, no matter they are rich or poor, all are very concerned about the election. The election makes all the American citizens use their constitutional vote rights.
In China, although the economy has developed, political reform and the electoral system have not kept the pace with society. China is an authoritarian society; people do not have the right to vote. We need to learn from the America’s elections, hoping the Chinese government can allow people to participate in elections, and a democratically elected government can be established.
