Shi Lirong: Establishing a Democratically Elected Government in China
石丽荣(Shi,Lirong)
Over the years, I have been concerned about the U.S. presidential election. And I have found that in the United States everybody is very concerned about the election, regardless of who you are, what is your ethnic and profession, whether you are rich or poor. The media would continue to focus on the topic of elections. The election in America put all the Americans together, let them fully use their rights as a citizen, and be involved in the voting process of the nation’s presidential elections.
In today's Chinese society, though the country’s economy continues to develop, the public does not have the basic citizen’s rights enshrined in the constitution. They cannot participate in election freely. In addition, the country’s political reform does not improve at all, the electoral system is imperfect, and there is lack of moral civilization and so on.
Because the current China is an authoritarian country, although the Constitution entitles every citizen the right to vote, the reality is that people have no freedom to vote. We call upon the Chinese government to carry out democratic reforms, so that people can have right to vote. It is important to establish a democratically elected government in China, and only such a government can make the Chinese society peaceful.
