Chen, Zhaoqing: Chinese Government must Abide by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
陈召强(Chen,Zhaoqiang)
On December 10, 1948, the UN General Assembly issued the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, clearly stating “tyranny against humanity, massacres, disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind.” It also requires "the declaration have to be spread, displayed, read and expounded principally in schools and other educational institutions regardless of the political status of the country or territory.”
Over the years, China’s human rights situation makes the whole world worried. The UN General Assembly is always urging the Chinese government to improve human rights. Chinese government has to improve human right condition by taking real action, and show its sincerity in improving human rights. The government has to show 1.3 billion Chinese people that they can get rid of authoritarian rule, and the Chinese people can have basic human rights.
First, the government should immediately release all imprisoned human rights activists, dissidents and religious people. Second, the government has to stop violent demolition, stop violating Chinese people's legitimate property, and create a stable environment. Third, it is important to promote political reform, give the power and politics back to people. Fourth, the government must open the news media, open freedom of speeches, seriously deal with corrupt officials. The Chinese government must honor the commitments to improve human rights, use practical action to prove that China's human rights situation is in progress. If the Chinese government cannot do these four aspects, improving human rights condition is just empty words.
