Peng, Qian: Democracy started from the freedom of speech
彭谦(Peng, Qian)
As a tool of authoritarian rule, the CCP long blinded Chinese people through the media control. In china, people can't freely express opinion in public. Especially any criticism relate to the government no matter orally or in writing. Any opinion on public affairs unfavorable to the government or officals will be treated as endanger to social stability. From a higer level, all of the media in China are subject to government control, on radio, television, newspapers and magazines. As to the individual level, even we are in the era of internet, Chinese government has spent lots of money to build what we called "the great firewall" in order to firmly in control of how Chinese people access information to prevent people get to the truth. For instance, people can't access youtube, facebook in China. Google also had to withdraw from China to defend freedom of speech. Domestic websites in China are subject to sensitive words filtering, thus the content of these sensitive words can not be published. Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 clearly stated the freedom of speech. While China's constitution has provisions that people have the right to freedom of speech, so why the Chinese people still dare to openly express their political views? The CCP is obviously says one thing and do the complete opposite. What CCP did is contradicting to the democratic society, is a violation of human rights. Democracy begin with freedom of speech.
