Peng, Qian: China's Hukou system causes discrimination
彭谦(Peng, Qian)
There is a discrimination called Hukou system (household registration) against the Chinese people from day one they were born. Since 1950s, shortly after the CCP came to power, Chinese citizens have been divided into two strata, urban and rural, not according to where they live but on a hereditary basis so people born unequally. If you want to migrate to anywhere other than where your Hukou indicates, you have to get a temporary residence permit otherwise you will put in jail. Not to mention people with temporary residence permit can't compete fairly in job, can't buy house, lack of medial support and so on. The fact that in China, people can't relocate freely within their own country is just like cattle in captive. Furthermore Hukou system collaborate with family planning policy. Any child not born accordingly cannot register to Hukou therefore no education opportunity, no medical care. They are outcast of the society. Hukou system creates inequality from education, employment, health care which every citizen entitle to. This inequality throughout one's life is the breeding ground for corruption. Equality and eliminate discrimination are fundamental to the human right. Hukou system in China violates International human rights instruments, tramp on one's dignity and human right. I will keep advocate against Hukou system until it completely corrected.
