Because of Communist Party of China (CPC)’s one-part autocracy, there is no freedom of speech in China. People’s comments are controlled by the Chinese authorities, and people have on freedom to express their opinion; when people criticize the Chinese authorities or try to express different views, they would be reprimanded by the authorities, if people express dissatisfaction with the government in public places, or complain on the internet, the government will suppress people on an excuse of “undermine social stability and endanger national security”, people will be fined, detained or even jailed. The Chinese government is arguably the world’s most rigorous government which use the most brutal means to control news media. All the media in China are under the control of the government, whether traditional media, such as radio, television, newspapers or emerging media such as the Internet, the penetration of the Chinese authorities are pervasive. Take the Internet for example, in order to control the Chinese people to get information from the Internet, the Chinese government has spent heavily in building the so-called “the Great Firewall”, through the software such as “Green Dam”, the Chinese authorities firmly monitoring and filtering the network information, today’s Chinese Internet is a veritable Chinese LAN, so far, YOUTUBE, FACEBOOK, GOOGLE and tons of sites are not accessible from the Chinese mainland. Truly powerful country, really great political parties, have never been afraid of the different opinions raised by the people. In the United States, people has the freedom of speech, people will not be persecuted by their comments to the national policy, and will never be jailed by their political views. The Chinese authorities should learn from history, allow Chinese people enjoy their freedom of speech, “Be tolerant to diversity, tolerance is a virtue.”
