In the current political system in mainland China, there are only grassroots township people＇s congress representatives, who are directly elected by voters. This is the only opportunity for ordinary Chinese people to exercise their right to vote and to be elected.
However, even this grassroots election is completely manipulated by the mainland Chinese authorities, and it simply cannot reflect the democratic spirit of people＇s participation in and discussion of state affairs.
On the surface, the CCP stipulates that candidates for grassroots people’s congresses shall be nominated by political parties, mass organizations and social groups, and individual citizens may also run as independent candidates. However, the CCP also stipulates that individual citizens must have More than 10 local voters must sign.
The purpose of the CCP is to allow all candidates proposed by the authorities to be elected, and at the same time set up obstacles to prevent individual citizens from standing for election independently.
Under such circumstances, even if someone is determined to run for the election, no one dares to publicly sign a joint petition to support it under the threat of the CCP. Therefore, independent candidates cannot be included in the list of candidates at all.
