Qin, Tianzhu: Chinese Peasants Without Freedom
Lands originally is the most valuable property of Chinese peasants, clothing and food come out from it and subsistence links with it; but before long, Chinese peasants’ property rights of lands are deprived. Peasants lose rights of lands handling, moreover they can’t gain profits from lands handling. All levels of government concoct various pretexts, take lands belonging to peasants for their own use, and get rich by lands sale. A large numbers of peasants who lost lands can nowhere settle down and get on with their pursuit, and their living status is very miserable.
Chinese dual household register system which separates town and country discriminates identity of peasant, restricts peasants to work and live in city, infringe upon freely migrating right of peasants, and causes a series of severe social problems. Peasants who account for majority of the whole country’s population have made great contribution for national industrialization and modernization, but they can’t enjoy social welfare and social security which they deserve.
