Ge,Shijie: Demobilized Soldiers Are Representatives of Weak-influenced Groups in Chinese Society
The weak-influenced groups in Chinese society include not only aged, diseased and maimed persons but also workers and peasants who live in poverty and are in a weak-influenced state in employment competition. The general opinion is that although presently workers and peasants are in common social class and have same benefit, it is difficult for them to become a completely independent social action force and their alliances even need the help of participating in joint action of other social groups. But this doesn’t mean that they are not able to fight for their own benefit and they do not have ability to mobilize and organize.
At present among workers and peasants these bottom groups there is a social group, namely demobilized soldiers who have quite large number, certain social relationship and ability of organization and mobilization. This is a very unique social group and these people all play important roles in the organizations for peasants reducing loads or defending lands ownership.
In some areas, demobilized soldiers have already taken advantage of this unique identity for jointly social mobilization. They initiate to found “anti-corruption unit”, its main members are laid-off workers, needy peasants and lower level intellectuals, and it alleges having achieved “worker-peasant alliance”.
