Sun, Weidong: Don’t Pollute the Globe. It Is Our Homeland
Date: 10/5//2006 3:54:28 PM By: Sun, Weidong
China has been devoting to promote energy exploitation ratio, but proved of little effect. This resulted from environmental protection laws are not enforced strictly, which are to a large extent, a decoration. Some factories have installed waste treatment equipments but chosen to pay penalties, because it is “cheaper” to pay the fines than running these machines. The flaws of the system have failed environment protection and pollution treatment.
A large portion of land in China is becoming desert. Many factories release used waste water without treatment, polluting many lakes and rivers. Environmental pollution has become a severe challenge to China’s economic growth and prosperity and lives of ordinary Chinese. Although China has invested large amounts of capitals in environment protection, and will continue to invest more money, they are not enough to solve the pollution problems brought about by industrial development. Pollution becomes worse due to the low exploitation ratio of energy. China should complete legislation on environment protection and increase investment and effort put into it.
