Wu, Lingli: Improve China's Human Rights Environment
Chinese people's political rights are dropped behind the most countries, and are not in conformity with generally accepted human rights standards in the world. Human rights problem in China with 1.3 billion populations are more serious and gradually deteriorating. In the current Chinese society, people do not have the power with the elections to choose the form of political power or choose government leaders. Therefore, the Chinese people can’t create a practical respect for human rights in the political system, unable to establish an effective legal system to protect human rights, can’t establish an effective defend of human rights in the judicial system, even can’t enjoy freedom of speech, freedom of belief and freedom of association. This is the main reason that China's human rights situation is not improved in long-term fundamental.
The Chinese government should use the opportunity of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games to promote democratic reform and improve China's human rights situation. The international society should not only concern about China's human rights, but also to create an environment to force the Chinese government to give up authoritarian regimes.
