      Yang, Shankai: Opening Freedom of Speech is Foundation to Promote Chinese Democracy Reform

People in the countries where freedom of speech exists can treat each other sincerely, because there must be free regime in the countries where freedom of speech exists. People in the countries where freedom of speech exists must abide by faith. If people’s speech is suppressed, people have no freedom to tell truth. How can such a society where people treat each other dishonestly be an honest society?
People living in Chinese society have no freedom. When you tell your opinion about facing inability of government and officials closely related to you, what can you say? Maybe you don’t want to say anything. Government and officials want you to compliment them, and you don’t want to say any words against your conscience. How can such a society where people don’t dare to express their true speech be a honest society?
Freedom of speech is very important to a country’s stability and maintenance. It is same to free and democratic countries, and so is it to China. The current Chinese society lacks the environment for free speech. Only truly opening freedom of speech can promote steps of democracy reform in Chinese society.
