There are two reasons for why many people who do not know the truth reckon that the answer is for sure: the first one is that the religion is said to be written into the constitution, and the other one is because there are a majority religious association being established in Chinese mainland. In deed, these are seeming phenomena, and problems can not be solved thoroughly! For instance, there are lots of people come to the temple to burn joss sticks in Chinese Spring Festival, and there are also many CPC leaders worship those idols, it seems flourishing there, but you have to be aware of this freedom is a “fake freedom”. Why? Since the whole religious essence is already erased, it is completely the seeming form of burning joss sticks and kowtow. The reason why I name this freedom “fake freedom” is because there is a premise in Chinese religion which is you must insist the leadership of CPC, and you have to obey it there is any conflict between your religion and CPC. So I don’t think that is a real freedom in essence. The aim of CPC establishing religious association is not for religion’s prosperity but to control it. What we have to be conscious of is that religion is not uncontrolled is not only a kind of spiritual pressure, but also ensured by violence. The alleged no-freedom is that you maybe suffer the violent intimidation when you have this religion. This is the typical religious persecution. For instance, nowadays there are mainland family meetinghouse and Falun Gong’s worshiper, they will both suffer from serious persecution and be put into prison. This disobeys the basic spirit of modern law. In conclusion, I reckon that the freedom of Chinese religion is incomplete and nominal..
