China has announced Tibet will reopen to foreign tourists on April 5th.

The Chinese state news agency, Xinhua, said tourist authorities had decided to open allow tourist arrivals after a crackdown that was imposed for the anniversary of a failed Tibetan uprising.

Travel agencies, tourist resorts and hotels have been told to prepare for tourists after numbers went down when the security clampdown was put in place to prevent unrest during this month＇s 50th anniversary of the revolt that led to the flight into exile of the Dalai Lama.

Official figures have stated that only 1.4 million people went to the city of Lhasa last year, a 51 per cent drop from 2007.
