Jihui Zhang:Chinese government should return the freedom of speech to its citizens
The general public of china is not entitled to the freedom of speech. They can’t publicly common on whether their lives in china are good or bad; nor can they common on governmental affairs, not to mention to criticize their government or/and their officials. If they do so, they will be investigated, even being detained and put into jail, some will even be charged of destructing the stability and solidarity of the society. Many Chinese don’t recognize it is abnormal that they don’t have the freedom of public speaking; this is the result of long-term high pressure ruling in China.
It is common sense that, the freedom of speech is granted by nature, and it is a natural right that we are all born with it: we talk, we need to talk, and we should all talk honestly. Freedom of speech is one of the most basic human rights, and such right is a unique entitlement that belongs to anybody.
In China, citizens’ speaking was constrained. They live on this piece of land, yet they’ve been deprived of the freedom of speech as well as some other basic human rights. Such deed virtually conflicts with Chinese government’s call for “establishing a harmonious society”.
