Chaogang Yao: There has to be a peaceful environment if China wants to rise highly

The interior problems of China are rather severe. There are flaws existing in the current political system and this system must be transformed to the free and democratic system; the financial discrepancy between the officials and the civilians caused the social conflicts becoming intense and sharp gradually; cultural believes and common values are still lacking; the destructing of environment and the wasting of resources greatly impeded the healthy development of economy. Under such background, it is not easy for China to rise highly.

Even though China can rise, can such a “rise” be democratic? Can it be liberal and peaceful? Would China’s rise be a blessing or catastrophe to its neighbor countries as well as the whole world? The people of China must love peace, and which country’s people don’t love peace? However, the history had demonstrated that, the dictators and the autocratic system are always the one who destruct the peace and start the war.

Such government which it couldn’t even put democracy and freedom into practice and couldn’t guarantee the basic human rights of its citizens internally; can we expect it to be the cornerstone of accomplishing the whole world’s peace?
