The next day, he was taken away by the police in Shijingshan District of Beijing, and then detained by the authorities. After the secret trial of the case in May , no sentence was pronounced. The German and French ambassadors in China presented the "German French human rights award" to him in early 2019. The award was accepted by Yu Wensheng＇s wife, Xuyan. Yu was sentenced to four years＇ imprisonment for inciting subversion of state power on June 17. The German and French governments was shocked ,then they issued a joint statement. The statement said Yu used peaceful means to promote constitutional amendment, the rule of law and human rights in China, and assisted other human rights defenders as a lawyer. The German and French governments also called on the Beijing government to protect the rights of Yu Wensheng and his family. They think chinese leaders should move forward towards the goal of realizing the rule of law. However, even if Germany and France issued a statement and called on the Beijing authorities .And many other activists also keep an eye on Yu Wensheng. The Beijing authorities still ignored it. So far, the official lawyers have not only refused to give the verdict to their families, but also refused to let Xu Yan and his lawyer meet with Yu Wensheng recently. The official so-called rule of law can be questioned repeatedly. The defense lawyer of the second instance of Yu’s case came to Xuzhou detention center to ask for a meeting with him on July 22. The receiving police officer refused to arrange a meeting for him on the ground that he had not received the notice from the court of second instance. In view of the two lawyers＇ experiences in Xuzhou detention center, Xu Yan said that there is no legal basis for not allowing lawyers to see Yu Wensheng. This is to continue to deprive lawyers of the right to meet and deprive the client of the right to appeal for legal help. Indeed, if public power is to choose to play rogue, then the common people have no way. However, it damages not only the individual people, but also the government credibility and the commitment of the rule of law.
